VENICE COMMISSION IN BELGRADE: CLEAR CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT OF JUDGES NEEDED

1.02.2013.

Senior officials of the Venice Commission visited the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration in early February. Reason for the visit was a meeting where amendments to three judicial laws drafted by the working group of the Ministry were discussed.

One of the subjects of the meeting was the current situation in Serbian judiciary, with a view on the ongoing work of the High Judicial Council. Of course, the amendments to three draft laws were mostly discussed: the Law on Judges, the Law on the Organisation of Courts and the Law on Public Prosecution.

Members of the Venice Commission commended Serbia’s commitment to fight corruption and crime, which is an important prerequisite for building a legal state. Representatives of the Ministry thanked the delegation of the Venice Commission for the expert help and opinions on legal solutions in the field of judiciary.
