SIGNED PROTOCOL FOR QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION FOR JUVENILES IN VALJEVO

16.03.2013.

Minister Nikola Selakovic signed today on behalf of the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration Protocol on implementation of the project “Quality improvement of accommodation and capacities of correctional institution for juveniles in Valjevo” with head of mission of the International Management Group, Mr. Egidio Dino Biciato.

Minister Selakovic thanked the Kingdom of Norway for recognizing the need for improving conditions of accommodation and work of the correctional institution and said that this is large investment of over €3.2 million, which is an extraordinary help in the economic crisis.

“Serving the sentence itself is pointless without quality conditions and capacities for life and work, as for convicted persons as well as for employees. Considering that juveniles who committed a criminal offence are specially sensitive part of population, its is neccessary to harmonize these conditions with the European standards" minister Selakovic emphasized.

Head of mission of the International Management Group, Mr. Biciato said that it was great honour for him to participate in signing of the protocol and thanked the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration for continued and successful cooperation in implementation of judiciary projects.

Director of the Administration for Enforcement of Criminal Sanctions, Milan Stevovic expressed satisfaction because new building and reconstruction and adaptation of the existing facilities of the Institution in Valjevo will start soon, which will enable implementation of a new concept of enforcement of juvenile sanctions and improve living, working and safety conditions for convicted persons and employees.

Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Serbia, Nils Ragnar Kamsvåg said that this project is just a part of broader programme “Improvement of Access to Justice in Serbia” financed by the Kingdom of Norway.
